The Springhead Trust in Fontmell Magna in North Dorset, is the venue for our Summer Retreats. It’s a place of deep tranquility, tucked away at the edge of the Blackmore Vale in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Aside from being a perfect place to retreat to, the Trust exists as a centre for sustainable, creative living and is perfectly in tune with the ethos of Wild Women Retreats. We are honoured to support them and the important work they do.
The Trust was set up in memory of Rolf Gardiner, a pioneer ecologist. He was an organic farmer and forester, a founder member of the Soil Association and a passionate believer in rural sustainability at a time when farming was becoming increasingly industrialised. His wife Marabel was an advocate of the arts, holding festivals, concerts and theatrical spectacles in Springhead’s magical lakeside setting.
Springhead’s mission is to encourage people of all ages and backgrounds to experience and value the rural environment, and to learn about the sustainable use of natural resources; as well as to conserve the buildings and gardens as a special place for education, enjoyment of the arts, music and rural culture.
The Trust have a new website www.springhead.org.uk and we invite you to have a look at their work and the wonderful photos of a truly unique and special place.
